About Valencia...

Valencia Yearwood (AEA/SAG-AFTRA) is a Tony Award-nominated producer, actress, and director with over 30 years proven experience in the arts. Most recently, she was a producer of the Broadway revival of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf (Tony nomination) and the Broadway premier of the groundbreaking Broadway play Thoughts of A Colored Man. She also recently directed the revival of Pooled: A Gospel Musical Drama at the National Black Theatre Festival.

 

A native of Queens, New York, she started her arts career as a dancer with the Dance Theatre of Harlem where she rose to the rank of soloist. A proud member of New York Women in Film & Television, her Broadway acting credits include The Lion King and Once Upon a Mattress and professional voice-over work includes HBO, Apple TV, Nickelodeon, Grand Theft Auto and For Colored Girls.

Her television appearances are include Bull, FBI, Lincoln Rhyme: Bone Collector, FBI:Most Wanted, Law and Order SVU, and The Guiding Light as well as numerous national and regional commercials, including Verzenio, Liberty Mutual, Capital One, Colonial Penn, Footlocker, Santander Bank, Advair, Hotels.com, Verizon, FedEx, BJ’s Warehouse, Publix, New York Lotto, and Partnership for a Drug Free America. 

Valencia currently serves on the Dance Advisory Committee for the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. She is a past Chair of the Board of Directors of 651 Arts (an arts organization in Brooklyn, New York dedicated to supporting emerging and established artists from the African Diaspora) and has served on the Programming and Educational Advisory Committees of the South Orange Performing Arts Center located in South Orange, New Jersey. 

A servant-leader and change agent through the performing arts, Valencia is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she served as chair of the Eastern Regional Arts & Letters Committee, and The Links, Inc., where she served as co-chair of its Arts Facet and Chaplain for the North Jersey Chapter.
